The Doxology - ‘Our God is Able’[PART 4]

The Doxology: ‘Our God is Able’ The theme for this crusade, "Our God is Able," originates from Ephesians 3:20–21: "Now unto him that is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen." Theologically, this passage is a doxology—a concluding prayer, hymn, or verse in Christian liturgy that glorifies God. The term derives from the Greek doxologia, combining doxa ("glory") and logos ("speaking"). Similarly, the Kaddish serves as a doxology in Judaism; typically recited in Aramaic at the end of synagogue service sections, its core centers on the phrase: "Glorified and sanctified be God's great name throughout the world which He has created according to His will." Perhaps the most frequently recited doxology worldwide is: "Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heavenly h

PART 4 — GOD’S PLAN AND PURPOSE

Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end.”

INTRODUCTION TO PART 4 — “Why God Does What He Does”

Every miracle God performs, every blessing He gives, every prayer He answers, and every work He accomplishes has one ultimate aim: His glory.

We have seen:

  • God’s Person — who He is
  • God’s Prerogative — what He chooses
  • God’s Power — what He places in us

But now Paul brings us to the grand conclusion — the reason behind it all:

God’s Plan and Purpose — “Unto Him be glory in the church…”

This is the heartbeat of the doxology. This is the destination of every doctrine. This is the purpose of every promise.

Everything God does is for His glory, and the primary place where that glory is meant to be displayed is the church — the redeemed community of believers.

Let’s walk through this final, glorious truth.

PART 4 — GOD’S PLAN AND PURPOSE

Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end.

Paul ends the doxology by lifting our eyes from what God does for us to what God does through us and in us — for His glory.

The church is not an afterthought. The church is not a side project. The church is not a human invention.

The church is God’s eternal plan.

THE CHURCH IS THE CENTERPIECE OF GOD’S PURPOSE

Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 3:14–21 marks the transition from doctrine to practice. He has explained:

  • our calling
  • our identity
  • our inheritance
  • our position in Christ
  • our access to God
  • our unity in the Spirit

Now he shows us the purpose behind it all:

That God would receive glory in the church.

1 Timothy 3:15 calls the church:

The household of God… the pillar and ground of the truth.”

The church — the collection of all saved believers — is the family in which God’s glory is meant to reside and be clearly seen.

The church is the most important entity in the world.

Not governments. Not corporations. Not kingdoms. Not empires.

The church.

THE CHURCH EXISTS TO GLORIFY GOD

Paul says:

Unto Him be glory in the church…

This means:

  • The church should be pure
  • The church should be holy
  • The church should be unified
  • The church should be Spirit-filled
  • The church should reflect Christ

The church is designed to promote the glory of God, not the glory of man.

When the church loses sight of God’s glory, it loses its purpose. When the church loses its purpose, it loses its power. When the church loses its power, it loses its witness.

Everything God has done in Ephesians 1–3 — adoption, redemption, sealing, inheritance, access, unity — is so that the church may display His glory.

THE CHURCH GLORIFIES GOD THROUGH CHRIST JESUS

Paul continues:

…by Christ Jesus…”

This means:

  • Christ is the mediator
  • Christ is the center
  • Christ is the foundation
  • Christ is the head
  • Christ is the reason we can glorify God at all

There is no glory in the church apart from Christ. There is no worship without Christ. There is no unity without Christ. There is no salvation without Christ.

Everything the church is, and everything the church does, must be rooted in Christ Jesus.

THE GLORY OF GOD IN THE CHURCH IS ETERNAL

Paul adds:

“…throughout all ages, world without end.”

This is not temporary glory. This is not seasonal glory. This is not revival-week glory.

This is eternal glory.

God’s plan for the church stretches:

  • across generations
  • across cultures
  • across nations
  • across centuries
  • across eternity

The church is part of a story that began before time and will continue after time ends.

God’s glory will never fade. God’s purpose will never fail. God’s plan will never be overturned.

THE CHURCH IS GOD’S ETERNAL DISPLAY OF HIS WISDOM AND POWER

Ephesians 3:10 says:

“To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God.”

The church is God’s cosmic sermon. The church is God’s eternal exhibit. The church is God’s living testimony.

Through the church, God displays:

  • His wisdom
  • His grace
  • His mercy
  • His power
  • His love
  • His sovereignty

This is why Paul ends with:

Unto Him be glory in the church…

Because the church is the stage upon which God reveals Himself to the world.

CLOSING OF PART 4 — THE FINAL AMEN

We have walked through Paul’s doxology:

God’s Person — “Now unto Him…”

God’s Prerogative — “He is able…”

God’s Power — “According to the power that worketh in us…”

God’s Plan and Purpose — “Unto Him be glory in the church…

And Paul ends with one word:

Amen.”

Amen — so be it. Amen — let it be done. Amen — let God be glorified. Amen — let His power work in us. Amen — let His purpose be fulfilled. Amen — let His church shine. Amen — our God is able.

World without end. Amen.
